TAX, CUSTOMS & SHIPPING INFO

Ontario recently changed its provincial tax to a Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), combining the provincial and federal tax.  The Ontario HST is 13% and will be applied to all artwork sold at the Fair.

Customs and Shipping Information

All shipments to Toronto, not of Canadian origin and not pre-sold, may be entered duty & tax free under an exhibition purposes bond posted by a customs broker. At the close of the event, the bond is cancelled in part or in full by re-exportation, or a consumption entry paying any applicable duties and taxes on the portion remaining in Canada. Note: Each exhibitor is responsible for the payment of any duties and taxes on their own shipment(s) unless arrangements are made with the customs broker prior to the show.

Further customs information including duty-free and tariff classification information is available in the Exhibitor Services Package.

For the convenience of exhibitors requiring customs clearance and/or freight transportation services, arrangements have been made with Schenker Canada, the official shipper and customs broker for Art Toronto.
Schenker can provide the following services:

Customs Regulations

For the duration of the event, the exhibit premises are a Customs-bonded area. Therefore no display items may be removed from the show area without the knowledge and consent of Schenker, Canada Customs and Event Management. All international shipments will be customs cleared at the show site. Customs clearance procedures will not impede exhibitor access for set-up. Normal procedure at the close will require the exhibitor to repack & label their shipment(s). Goods to be displayed at another show, may be transferred in bond, or held in a bonded storage facility in Canada for a maximum 2 year period.

Exhibitors are responsible to Schenker for all customs and freight charges incurred on their behalf.

DB SCHENKER is once again our partner for shipping and importation, as well as taxation. Anita Meyer from SCHENKER will be contacting our exhibitors to see if and how they can assist you with transporting your goods to the fair in October.  You may contact Anita at 1.800.461.3686 or anita.meyer@dbschenker.com.

In previous years exhibitors have been required to apply for a vendor permit in order to sell at the Fair. This has been for the purposes of reporting and remitting taxes to the government of Ontario. However, this form is no longer required. As of July 1st, Ontario has implemented a Harmonized Sales Tax, replacing the previous duo of taxes GST and PST. Please note that for any and all sales at Art Toronto, you should invoice your customers the full HST amount of 13%. Anita Meyer of DB Schenker will have more information available should you have any questions or concerns, and she will also assist you with remittance of the tax at the close of the fair.
