Since 2006, The Power Plant has partnered with Art Toronto to present thought-provoking talks by scholars, artists, curators, and art world figures. This year, in the context of Art Toronto’s 20th edition, for the first time presented virtually, The Power Plant is thrilled to present three online studio visits with established and up-and-coming Canadian artists.

Artist Curtis Talwst Santiago will be joined by curator Claire Gilman. The two will discuss Santiago's creative process and elaborate on his artistic career.

ARTIST TALK: Christi Belcourt and Bonnie Devine in Conversation with Sarah Milroy 
Presented by McMichael Canadian Art Collection (Virtual)

Artists Christi Belcourt and Bonnie Devine join McMichael Chief Curator Sarah Milroy in conversation about their upcoming projects at the McMichael and contemporary Indigenous art practice and activism today. Uprising: The Power of Mother Earth (Oct 24, 2020 – Jan 24, 2021) is first major retrospective of Belcourt's work and spans more than twenty-five years of her art-making career. project From Water to Water: A Way Through the Trees (Spring 2021) will be a multi-media work in the McMichael’s Grand Hall Alcove that combines painting, archival collage, and printmaking techniques to explore the history of the Carrying Place Trail which historically provided an integral connection for Indigenous people between Ontario’s Lakeshore and the Lake Simcoe-Georgian Bay Region.

ARTIST TALK: Artist Charley Young and Sarah Fillmore, Chief Curator, in China with the AGNS exhibition “Terroir”
Presented by Studio 21 Fine Art (Virtual)

A conversation about the artist's participation in the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia's touring exhibition "Terroir" in Guangzhou and Shenzhen China in late 2019. Charley Young was one of six female Nova Scotia artists exhibited in three Chinese contemporary art museums. The discussion will be about her work, the two visits to China and the installation process.

Moderator Tara Westermann will engage the four artists that are included in the VIVIANEART fair presentation in a conversation about their distinct approaches to abstraction. The event will also include a screening of our short video produced specifically for the art fair which will include studio footage with each artist.
