Art Toronto Program Discover, Presented by RBC

Eight galleries were selected to showcase work by emerging artists at the 2023 edition of the Fair as part of the 2023 groundbreaking new program, Discover, presented by RBC.

Dedicated to providing a platform for artists in the early stages of their careers, Discover has been co-created by Art Toronto and RBC to offer galleries exhibiting at the fair unparalleled opportunities to spotlight these rising stars and connect them with enthusiastic new audiences.

Spread across the show floor, these eight selected galleries will be given new opportunities to forge invaluable connections between their promising emerging artists and influential curators and collectors to help propel them into the next stage of their artistic journey. The selection process for these esteemed galleries was meticulously undertaken by a committee made up of Mia Nielsen, Director, Art Toronto; Corrie Jackson, Senior Curator, RBC, and Kitty Scott, Independent Curator and curator of Art Toronto’s 2023 Focus Exhibition.

“On behalf of the selection committee, I'm thrilled to share the lineup of selected galleries for the new program Discover, presented by RBC,” says Mia Nielsen, Director, Art Toronto. “The cross section of galleries represented not only offers a diverse practice of works across various media, but also national and international representation, with Canadian galleries from coast to coast participating. It's an absolute honour for Art Toronto to join forces with RBC in providing this opportunity to showcase incredible emerging artists at Canada's Art Fair this fall.”

“It was a pleasure to be in discussion with the jury, and to spend time with the innovative emerging voices that were presented in the submissions to the Discover section,” says Corrie Jackson, Senior Curator, RBC. “Sincere thanks and appreciation to all the galleries that applied, and who continue to champion the support of artists’ practices year-round. The conversations and reflections art fosters remain essential to building meaningful dialogue within our communities. The RBC Art Collection continues to be anchored in supporting the work of emerging artists through our global collection, and we look forward to seeing how this platform can continue to elevate the visibility, support, and growth of exceptional artists.”

“We know the arts play an important role in building vibrant communities and strong economies”, says David Agnew, CEO of RBC Wealth Management “Our long-standing support of Art Toronto gives our clients an opportunity to engage with some of the world’s best contemporary art, as well as introduce them to the next generation of artists.”
